Shellac nail polish is a new nail product developed by Creative Nail Design (CND). It comprises of nail polish combined with an equal amount of gel. You apply the product just like a regular nail polish on your natural nails without filing or sculpting after which it is cured using UV lighting same way as Gels.

Going beyond ordinary manicure, they are numerous options, which are sometimes very difficult to select from. They are differences between Shellac Nails, Acrylic, and Gel which I bet you never knew before now. In this article, I will help you with genuine information to help you make better options when next you are having a manicure.

Acrylics, as well as Gels, are artificial nails properly fixed over your natural nails to make them look more beautiful. They can either be placed to match the normal shape of your original nails or can be used to extend the length of the nails depending on your choice. Although I merged Acrylics and Gels as though they are the same products, they have their differences ranging from their production process to mode of usage.

The toenails are more likely to get messy and may tend to break up with continuous use of tight footwear, using a nail gel polish helps to improve the strength of the toenails thereby helping them stay in form and stand the pressure from tight footwear.

When you’re aiming for more natural and glossy toenails, shellac if the perfect choice for that, however, try as much as possible to stay off tight shoes or footwear to help the shellac last longer.   In the world of manicure/pedicure, if your desire includes long-lasting, hard-wearing and high shine then shellac nails is your solution.

Shellac nail polish like I mentioned earlier is actually a combination of gel and nail polish. Due to the fact that it resembles a polish, you can’t use it in nail extension. It doesn’t add strength but makes the nails durable because it resembles a gel. From research, it has shown that Shellac nail polish is friendlier to the nails than regular Acrylics and Gels and its major benefit boils down to the fact that it reduces chipping.

When carrying out a survey on care for toenails, the question “Where do I find a toenail polish” is often the most asked question.

The good news is, a trained professional can always handle the toenail as well as the fingernails. Even though the process may be a little bit more tricky than the hands, the same results are attained when handles professionally.

Most times, customers confuse Shellacs and Gels because Shellac contains gel. Just like how Gels differ from Acrylics, same way is Shellac different from Gels although they have some similarities. For more information concerning Shellac and Gels, do well to consult a professional nail technician for clarification.

They are many benefits to Shellac nail polish which is why you should try this product

  • It lasts up to fourteen days after application
  • Because it is removed using acetone wraps, it prevents the nails from being torn, dry or thin
  • It gives the nails a natural glow and shine
  • Shellac makes the nails flexible and durable

But just like every other nail product in existence, shellac also has some known disadvantages which are listed below

  • It is not suitable for everyone because it requires a good nail bed.
  • Shellac can’t be used to strengthen or extend the nails like other synthetic nails.
  • It requires the help of a trained professional to apply or repair a break.
  • Removing Shellac involves a special removal process.
  • It is only sold to licensed professionals.

I will teach you various detailed procedures with which you can easily remove Shellac from your nails without hurting yourself or causing damage to your nails. First of all before removing shellac from your nails, get a nail-sized cotton ball and an aluminum strip to be used for each finger after which you deep the cotton ball strips in a chemical called acetone nail polish remover and put them over your nails. Cover the foil strips on the tips of your fingers to firmly hold the cotton ball strips. After ten minutes, remove the foil from your fingers and wash your hands properly. After washing your hands, some nail polish might still remain on your nails. All you need to do is just cleaning it off with a damp cotton wool.

You can also remove shellac nail polish by simply soaking the nails in a container of acetone but before you run off and do as I have just said, read on for the full details.

  1. The first thing you should do is to apply an ointment to your cuticles called cuticle oil. Rub it into the skin around the nails and avoid wiping away the excess. This oil is specially designed to soften the cuticles and can be purchased from drugstores when you apply it to the cuticles before removing the nail polish, it protects the skin from the drying, harsh acetone used in the shellac removing process.
  2.  Get an acetone of 60 percent concentration and above; pure acetone works better. Pour the acetone into a shallow bowl which should be big enough to fit your fingers, the acetone should fill about 1.2cm of the bowl.
  3. Dip your nails in the acetone and allow it to remain there for about 10 minutes, be cautious enough to expose not much of your skin to the chemical to avoid dryness of your skin.
  4. Remove fingers from the acetone after 10 minutes and scrape the shellac off your nails using an orange stick or manicure stick. To avoid wasting much time, you can also start scraping off the shellac in the 8th minute while the nails are still in the acetone to enable it to work on the remaining shellac.
  5. Use warm water and a mild soap to wash the shellac and acetone residue off your hands.
  6. Immediately after washing your hands try rubbing a good amount of lotion on your hands to restore lost moisture and prevent dryness.

As a frequent shellac nail polish user, you should seek the services of a professional nail technician because soaking the nails in acetone too often may cause permanent damages to your skin and your nails.
